You received an email about your Fitbit connection, or WeWard just asked you for a Health Connect permission? Don't worry — your steps and your Wards are safe. We'll explain everything. 🙂
What's changing?
Google (Fitbit's owner) is switching off the connection WeWard uses to read your Fitbit steps. From October 1, it will stop working.
So we're upgrading your step counting to Health Connect — Android's official health app that gathers steps from all your apps and devices, Fitbit included.
What do I need to do?
1. Allow Health Connect
Next time you open WeWard (from September 15), you'll see a Health Connect permission request. Tap Allow — this keeps your steps flowing.
2. Check your sources
In WeWard Settings → Steps, you'll see exactly how many steps come from your phone, your Fitbit, and any other app.
3. Fitbit not listed?
Our built-in guide walks you through connecting it in a few taps. You can also do it directly in the Google Health app (your Fitbit app's new name):
- Open the Google Health app
- Tap your profile picture (top right) → Partner Apps → Sync your favorite health apps
- Go through the setup steps
- Relaunch WeWard
That's it! Your Fitbit steps now reach WeWard through Health Connect.
Why you'll like it better
✓ Fitbit + phone + any other source, combined without double counting
✓ A more reliable connection, so your steps are there when you open the app
💡 Steps don't match? Do this first
- Fitbit/Google Health steps sync in the background, so WeWard may not always display the most up-to-date value. If you notice discrepancies, open the Google Health app before launching WeWard.
- Check the connection is fully on: in the Google Health app, tap your profile picture → Apps and services → Health Connect — sync must be enabled and Steps allowed.
- Make Google Health the top priority source: open Health Connect → Manage Data → Data Source and Priority → move Health to the top of the list.
- Allow Google Health to sync in the background: open Health Connect → Manage Data → Data Source and Priority → tap Health → Additional access → toggle "Access fitness and wellness data in the background".
