Mystery Chests are a fun new feature that turns every walk into a treasure hunt.
Open your map, find a nearby chest, and head over to claim your reward. You never know what’s inside! 🤩
⚠️ Mystery Chests are currently being rolled out as part of a test phase.
Only a limited number of users have access to them at this time, so we can evaluate and improve the experience before a wider rollout.
During this period, the feature’s functionality, rewards, or availability may change, be adjusted, or be temporarily suspended.
If you don’t see Mystery Chests in your app yet, don’t worry: they’ll appear in your account as soon as this new feature is rolled out. 🚀
What are Mystery Chests?
Mystery Chests are surprise rewards scattered on your map, alongside the WeCards you already know and love.
Each chest is filled with gifts, and you’ll only discover what it contains when you open it. 🔓
Inside a chest, you could win:
- Wards: added directly to your balance (with a chance to hit a Jackpot of 1,000 Wards! 💰)
- XP: to help you level up faster
- Raffle Ticket: automatically entering you into the most recent active raffle (you’ll even receive a confirmation email, just like with a regular ticket purchase!)

How to open a chest?
It’s simple and very fun! 😄
- Open the map and look for the Mystery Chest icons (you can’t miss them, they look very different from WeCards!)
- Approach a chest to activate it. Like with WeCards, the chest will only be available when you’re within range
- Tap to open it! Enjoy the satisfying opening animation, complete a quick sequence of 3 taps, and reveal your reward 🎉
Once you’ve claimed your prize, that chest goes to sleep until tomorrow, but don’t worry, there are plenty more to discover on the map!
Is it free to open chests?
Your first chest of the day is completely free!
After that, opening additional chests costs a small amount of Wards.
So if you’re feeling lucky and want to keep the adventure going, you can open as many as you want throughout the day.
How often do new chests appear?
Mystery Chests stay in the same spots for a full week, then change location on Wednesday. ✨
That means new places to explore regularly, so even if you’ve emptied all the chests in your neighborhood, fresh ones will soon appear nearby!
The number of chests in your area also stays consistent: if you see 2 chests within a 500-meter radius today, you can expect a similar density next week, but in different locations.
What if I can’t reach a chest?
If a chest seems inaccessible (private property, construction site, etc.), you can report it just like you would report a WeCard. We will review and update the location if necessary.
And if a chest is just a little too far away for now, tap it on the map to see its location; you’ll find a handy button to open the spot in your favorite mapping app.
