WeWard’s Mission
WeWard’s mission is to get more people walking the world over.
We do that by transforming daily movement into something motivating and rewarding, helping people build healthier lives with each step.
We believe technology can be a powerful force for good when it encourages positive, real-world behavior change. That’s why WeWard is intentionally designed to motivate movement, not passive digital consumption.
At the same time, conversations around screen time and digital addiction are both important and valid. In today’s app ecosystem, it’s reasonable to question how products influence user behavior.
Addiction vs. Motivation
When it comes to consumer apps, there’s a critical distinction between the products that exploit attention, and those that support meaningful habit formation. The difference lies in intent and outcomes.
Our CEO wrote about this in greater detail in A letter from WeWard's CEO.
WeWard does not develop features to increase screen time. We do not want to optimize for screen addiction. We want to optimize for real world activity.
In fact, a study on a sample of our users shows that the average time spent in the app is less than one minute per day.
This is in stark comparison to 101 minutes spent on social media, 78 minutes on streaming, 55 minutes on messaging, and 45 minutes gaming.
Further, an independent, peer-reviewed research published in Transport Policy found that WeWard users increased their daily walking distance by +20%, with consistent streak users walking even more regularly.
The Long-term Vision
WeWard represents a model of purpose-driven, transparent product design, where engagement serves legitimate health and environmental goals.
To date, WeWard users walk 24% more on average, have contributed over $1.5M in charitable donations, and helped offset 750,000 tons of CO₂.
Together, we’re helping our community to overcome one of the most well-documented public health challenges: maintaining regular physical activity.
We’re excited to be a part of the positive wave of technology that’s prioritizing people’s health and well-being at the core of our product, and getting users out and about into the real-world.
To us, this is what technology should be all about.
