A simple guide to how the WeWard app works and how the app stays free while funding rewards.
WeWard’s Mission
WeWard’s mission is to make walking more rewarding. By using behavioral science principles, we turn everyday steps into meaningful rewards, motivating millions of users to move more and build healthier habits.
Our rewards span financial rewards, social experiences, and gamified challenges, offering motivation for every type of user in our community.
How Does WeWard Make Money?
We believe daily movement should be accessible and inclusive for everyone, which is why our app is completely free to use. Anyone can download WeWard and start earning rewards simply by walking.
To keep the app free while funding these rewards, we use a multi-stream revenue model:
- Ads and offerwalls: Users can watch ads, participate in surveys, or test apps and offers in exchange for additional Wards.
- Affiliate partnerships: When users shop with partner brands, WeWard earns a commission and shares part of that value back with users in the form of Wards.
- In-app purchases: Users can purchase WeCards, a collectible in-app item, to complete their collections and trade with others. They can also purchase features like XP boosts, jokers, and streak freezes.
- Premium subscription: Users can upgrade to our Premium subscription for extra rewards and an ad-free experience.
Together, these four revenue sources make up all of the app’s income and allow us to give back part of this money to our users by rewarding their everyday walking, turning each step into a simple, positive, and motivating habit.
At the same time, this balanced model allows us to grow sustainably.
Our Approach to Data
User trust is central to WeWard. We are fully GDPR compliant, and our business model does not rely on selling user data.
We follow a clear three-pillar data framework:
- User consent: Any data collection is based on clear and transparent consent, where we always provide an explanation of why the data is needed and how it’s being used.
- Data minimization: We collect only the data that is strictly necessary.
- Strong partner agreements: All third-party partners are bound by Data Protection Agreements.
We do not sell user data. Any data we collect is used only to improve the user experience, personalize content, and better motivate daily movement and healthier, real-world habits.
Some partners, such as survey providers, may collect information that users choose to share directly with them in exchange for extra rewards. This data is not shared with WeWard. In these cases, WeWard acts only as a trusted intermediary, connecting users with partners while ensuring transparency and rewards.
Security is also a top priority. User data is protected with strong technical and organizational measures to prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or loss, and our systems are regularly monitored and updated.
